Pastel Preservation

For those unfamiliar with pastels, it is important to know that they are similar to chalk and will smudge easily. The best way to protect them is to have them framed with a minimum of 1/4" between the surface of the pastel and the glass, preventing smudging and also allowing any particles a place to fall and not stick to the glass. This can be created by adding a matt or something called "lifters" that your frame shop can easily put in for you.
