For
those unfamiliar with pastels, it is important
to know that they are similar to chalk and
will smudge easily. The best way to protect
them is to have them framed with a minimum
of 1/4" between the surface of the pastel
and the glass, preventing smudging and also
allowing any particles a place to fall and
not stick to the glass. This can be created
by adding a matt or something called "lifters"
that your frame shop can easily put in for
you.
